Interview With Michael Edgar,
Young Model / Actor (added
March 16, 2004)
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] While
taking my son to acting classes, I met a 7 year old model / actor,
named Michael Edgar, and his father. During the last couple of
months, I've had conversations with Tom Edgar, Michael's father.
I found that Michael has been modeling and acting for quite a
while. Tom is Michael's manager, and Michael has an agent named
Camera Ready Kids.
I wanted to run an interview with them to share with you...
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com]
Michael, How old were you when you started
modeling, and how did you get started?
[Michael Edgar] I was three years old. It
was my dad's idea. I just went along.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
was your first modeling job? Did you feel nervous? Did you have
fun?
[Michael Edgar] I
did a job in New Jersey for an energy commission. No! I am never
nervous. Yes; because I got to play with toys.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] When
did you start with acting? Why did you decide to try acting?
[Michael Edgar] When
I was five years old. My father and manager ask me to do it.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
was your first acting experience or job?
[Michael Edgar] I had a
small part in the play Aladdin.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
do your friends think about you modeling and acting?
[Michael
Edgar] They don't always believe
me until I show them the newspapers or magazines. My teachers
and family think it is great.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] Who
would you like to work with in the future?
[Michael
Edgar] I would like to be in
a singing group. I love to sing and dance.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
are your other dreams?
[Michael
Edgar] I would like to
design roller coasters. I also want to be a twister tracker and
work with weather.
Questions for Tom Edgar (Michael Edgar's Father)...
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] Tom,
How did the idea come about to get Michael into modeling?
[Tom
Edgar]
A newspaper photographer told my wife and I that Michael had very
nice eyes.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
steps did you take to get Michael into modeling? When did you
find you needed an agent?
[Tom
Edgar]
I knew from a relative that was modeling
at the time. She said that we had to have legitimate representation.
This is the only way to get real jobs.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
made you decide to get Michael into acting?
[Tom
Edgar]
Acting
and Modeling go hand in hand. Mikey's agency "Camera Ready Kids"
expects the kids to be ready to do what ever the medium calls
for.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
key things have you learned along the way?
[Tom
Edgar]
This business takes a lot of commitment and time. You always have
to be ready on a moments notice to attend an audition or job.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
does it take to be Michael's manager? Do you have to approve everything
through Michael's agent?
[Tom
Edgar]
While most of Mike's work comes through the agency; they encourage
us to do things on our own. They realize the more exposure he
gets only increases his value as an actor/model. With each job
he does he gets a little better.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] You
get calls about jobs for Michael during school hours sometimes.
Is the school accommodating to Michael's work schedule?
[Tom
Edgar]
Most of the teachers and staff know about Michael. At this time
he really does not miss a lot of school. He has had to leave early
occasionally and makes up the missed work. However, if he were
to land a big job or contract he would be tutored on the job.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
experience has Michael had up to this point in time?
[Tom
Edgar]
Michael has been seen in several television commercials in the
Washington DC area. He has appeared in advertising for National
Geographic and recently posed for a National Hair Style magazine.
Last summer he was busy filming a pilot for a children's television
show. His biggest National Spot was doing a Voice Over for an
animated children's character for HBO Family. In addition, Mikey
has performed in several local Stage productions, such as Hello
Dolly and Tom Sawyer.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
type of work would you like to see Michael get in the future?
[Tom
Edgar]
I of course, would like to see Mike break out of the local market,
and do more things on the National level. Movies, and Television
are always sought after. For now, we are grateful for the chances
he gets and will keep working with him as he grow.
[Wendy
at Dreamish.com] What
steps do you plan to take next?
[Tom
Edgar]
My wife and I continue to invest in training for him. He is always
taking theater, voice, and has had some dance. In addition, we
are constantly on the look out for any opportunities that might
afford him a chance to perform.
